Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry Cool Creek Family Dentist

Sedation dentistry is a safe and effective for most patients. Sedation opens the gateway to dental care for patients who have endured negative dental experiences, patients with a bad gag reflex or limited jaw opening, patients who have a hard time getting totally numb, need surgical treatment, or need extensive restorative treatment. Sedation may also allow you to consolidate several dental visits.

We offer a range of sedation options based on what is appropriate for our patient given their level of anxiety, and the level of procedure required. Options may be as simple as Nitrous Oxide, which is an extremely safe choice that works for routine care and simple surgical procedures. This is also a suitable and safe choice for our pediatric patients.

Other situations may require an oral sedative taken alone, or that can be combined with Nitrous Oxide to achieve the correct level for adult patients. This works very well for patients who need a more customized approach.

For cases of extreme anxiety or more in-depth surgical procedures, we offer IV Conscious Sedation. This moderate level of sedation allows the patient to breathe on his/her own, while in a dreamlike state. Although not actually sleeping, typically our patients have no memory of the procedures.

IV Conscious Sedation is a safe and economical alternative to General Anesthesia which is hospital or surgical center based. However, in instances where a patient has certain health disorders or previous drug addiction, Dr. Kristoff may recommend a surgical center based sedation. Our wonderful staff will calm your fears and answer any questions that you may have.

All patients receiving sedation are monitored throughout the procedure. Safety is our highest priority, which is why we exceed state monitoring requirements for each level of sedation we provide. Dr. Kristoff also strictly enforces the sedation safety protocols that he learned from the leading educators in dental sedation.
